I came across this game during my regular searches through my library of old games. Battle for Atlantis is a sidescrolling shooter and in the trend of those times it has a backstory despite it’s completely action based gameplay. It is the year 20xx and earth is invaded by aliens who were the original inhabitants of Atlantis and they claim the earth as their own. Ofcourse mankind cannot stand idly and let their planet be taken over so in a last attempt to defeat the aliens they send in a lone submarine to try and take out the city of Atlantis.

The game is much like other sidescrolling shooters and you will have a regular gun to shoot down any enemies you will come across. Ofcourse they will not let you go without a fight so be prepared to dodge some incoming fire and missiles. That’s not the only thing you have to be carefull off as there are lots of obstacles under the water ranging from nonmoving mountenous areas to rubble floating around. Your ship is fairly fragile however and you cannot take a hit or you will explode on impact sending you back to the start of the level and losing a life.

There isn’t much to say about this game other than it being a rather standard scrolling shoot’em up. However the execution of the game is very very bad like the screen scrolling which is very jerky to say the least and the controls aren’t much better. I haven’t played many BBC games but I’ve seen much better games for it so this is definately not an indication of what the system is capeable off. Unless you know this game from when it was originally released I’d advise you to leave the game alone as it’s doubtfull you will get much fun out of it.

Overal rating: 3/10

This game was released for one system here are some notes:

BBC Micro Released in 1982.
Graphics are very choppy and the game can be very difficult because of that.
